Katsushika Hokusai (Oct. 1760 – May 1849), known simply as Hokusai, was a Japanese painter, artist, and printmaker best known for his woodblock prints of Mount Fuji, particularly the iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa. His art inspired many western artists including Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.
